One of his more popular songs is, Yiku Benezwo (Agere Nafekegn), which means, I miss my home-town. This song increased his popularity as it was played on several Ethiopian television stations that featured Sekota style. Sekota is a town where Agews, Amharas and Tigray Ethiopians have lived together in harmony for centuries. The song depicts the traditional dance, clothing style and the beauty of the Agews. Another song that added to his popularity was Sora, with singer Kassahun Taye.
Mekuanet is currently working on his new album, in between touring with Cultural Group and performing at traditional clubs in Bahir Dar.
